Scars

Destroyed by the past,
One tiny event.
Surely this damage,
Wasn’t really meant.

One wrong word,
One action ill thought,
A lesson was learned,
A lesson well taught,

Don’t have something nice,
About your neighbour to say,
Then don’t say anything,
And keep it that way,

Don’t play pranks,
If you can’t take the fall,
Do unto others,
They say after all.

Scarred by the past,
Remembering the pain,
Life after torture,
Just isn’t the same.

Weakened and bruised,
Emotionally battered,
My childhood has left me,
All torn and in tatters.

Leave the past behind,
The thoughts in my head,
Time to live for the future,
Look forward instead.
